Pictures of World War 2: Guadalcanal

A picture taken at Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands highlighting the harsh conditions and tough lifestyle the soldiers that served in the conflict were forced to live in on a daily basis. 

A photo taken of dead Japanese soldiers in Guadalcanal washed up onto a beach from a failed raid the night before. Long exposure to death and high-impact situations can very easily expose someone to PTSD-inducing situations.

This is a photo of a graveyard on Guadalcanal with the graves of the fallen Marine and 182nd Army units that fought and died there. 

Guadalcanal, a tropic paradise located in the Solomon Islands, was once home to some of the most gruesome and hard-fought battles in the Pacific theater of the second World War. In historical context, Guadalcanal was the beginning of the end for the Japanese and was vital to the war as it cut off Japanese expansion entirely during the time and gave America air and water superiority. Both sides of the conflict, American and Japanese knew the stakes of the battles along these small island chains, putting massive stress on those troops tasked to take and maintain control of said islands one by one. The Guadalcanal conflict started on the 7^th of August 1942 and ended in February, 1943.
